Announcing Meet and Greet with Olympic Medalist Declan Brooks

We are delighted to announce that Declan Brooks, Olympic medalist (and Rom alumni!) will be joining us on Monday 23rd August for a Meet and Greet with the Mafia Bikes team. After representing Team GB in the Tokyo Olympics earlier this year, Declan took home the Bronze medal for BMX Freestyle Park - an incredible achievement and undoubtedly a massive  boost for the future of the sport. Hailing from Portsmouth (and his local Southsea skatepark), Declan has been riding from a young age and perfecting his talent all the way to the Olympics.  To have BMX Freestyle represented in the Games for the first time this year - and by such incredible riders - is a huge win for the...

BMX and Skating in the 2021 Olympics

It’s awesome to see the sports that we’ve grown up doing represented in the 2021 Olympics. The introduction of BMX freestyle and skateboarding to the Games will undoubtedly help to boost awareness of both riding and skating. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) described the newest additions to the Games “the most comprehensive evolution of the Olympic program in modern history”.  We’re committed to helping develop young riders, with Skating and BMX lessons available at the park, as well as an open and inclusive space for people to come and learn. Since introducing our lessons, we’ve already seen a huge interest in coaching, and the Olympics are no exception to the incredible talent of young athletes. Japan’s Momiji Nishiya took the...

Rom Regeneration

How many dudes (and dudettes) does it take to rebuild a skatepark? Funny you should ask. While much of the world stood still during the COVID-19 lockdowns, our team of volunteers got to work turning the park around ready for reopening. We’ve been extremely fortunate that so many people have given the park their time and skills over the last few months. The support we’ve received is a real testament to the impact Rom has had on some many lives - and now people are coming back to repay the favour. After clearing the large area at the back of the park, destroyed by the fire in 2018, our volunteers have set up a workshop area to build ramps. We’ve...

Rom Jam 2021

Picture the scene. COVID-19 restrictions are finally being lifted. We’ve had uncharacteristically good weather for building new bits at the park. No one’s been to a big event in what feels like a hundred years. So it seems like the only logical thing to do is host a BMX jam to bring the community back together - and to enjoy all the ramps we’ve been building at the park. On July 10th we’ll be opening our doors to riders from far and wide for Rom Jam 2021. Sponsored by the likes of Vans, crü, Seventies distro, 4Down distro and Ison distro, with media coverage from Ride UK.  Open to all ages and abilities, riders and spectators will be charged £5...
